Illinois Quick Hits: Inspector finds ‘data inaccuracies’ in Chicago finance department
(The Center Square) – The Chicago Office of Inspector General has found the city’s finance department cannot reliably measure the timeliness of payments to contracted vendors due to “data inaccuracies.”
An OIG audit found that the Chicago Department of Finance “has not fully inhabited its role” as the city’s central payment authority. The OIG said three city-funded studies since 2009 and a 2021 prompt payment working group identified slow payment timelines as a recurring concern among city contractors, but the underlying issues have remained largely unresolved.
VENICE MAN SENTENCED FOR ST. LOUIS CARJACKING, SHOOTING
A Venice, Illinois man was sentenced on Tuesday to 12 years plus 10 months in prison for the September 2024 armed robbery and carjacking of a man in St. Louis and for shooting at another man near the city’s Ballpark Village an hour later.
Prosecutors said Harry Moore, 21, was driving a Cadillac that had been stolen in Belleville when he and two other armed individuals robbed a man in the 2900 block of Minnesota Avenue.
Authorities said Moore then used a .45-caliber handgun to open fire at someone from a rival group who was walking near Ballpark Village. Just over a month later, Moore was arrested in Cahokia Heights. He pleaded guilty in April of this year.
DCFS AT THE STATE FAIR
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services tent at the Illinois State Fair will be on Central Avenue, where visitors can learn about the department’s programs and explore career opportunities.
A statement from DCFS says the tent will offer a children’s area with games and activities, opportunities to connect with recruiters about jobs in the department, and information about foster care, adoption and guardianship. DCFS will also welcome hundreds of foster, adoptive and guardianship families to the fair discounted parking, admission, concession and carnival ride coupons.
The Illinois State Fair opens Thursday and runs through Aug. 23 in Springfield.
