WATCH: Questions swirl around foiled UK terror plot as suspects released on bail
The arrests of five suspects in a foiled terror plot in the United Kingdom in the vicinity of the Royal Air Force Fairford Base, which U.S. forces have used to carry out attacks in Iran, raise questions regarding the motive.
The Center Square asked President Donald Trump Sunday evening, outside Air Force One, whether there were any indications that Iran was involved in the plot; the president wouldn’t elaborate on any possible involvement.
“We know all about them, and you’ll be hearing about it very soon. We caught them,” Trump told The Center Square.
Questions continue to swirl around the case after UK law enforcement officials announced that the five suspects had been released on bail. Authorities have confirmed that the suspects were UK nationals living in London, all in their 20s.
Iran has denied any involvement in the alleged plot; however, it is unclear if the plot could have been driven by support for the Islamic Republic.
Sunday happened to mark the second anniversary of the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon.
While the U.S. hasn’t targeted Hezbollah directly, the group is an Iranian proxy.
Earlier Sunday, as the president stepped off Air Force One, he briefly told reporters: “We had them under investigation. They were looking to do big damage…We had them under view for a long, and we got them,” said Trump.
However, the British farmer who alerted authorities has told multiple news organizations that she just happened to stumble upon a “large group of hooded and masked men,” with three white vans acting suspiciously in the early morning hours.
