(The Center Square) – Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Director James Jennings has announced a second round of funding for projects to address emerging contaminants in drinking and/or source water.

The grants are intended to help small or disadvantaged communities complete construction projects to address Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances or Manganese in the water supply.

The Illinois EPA will utilize funding appropriated by Congress from the State and Tribal Assistance Grant.

EX-CEO OF ILLINOIS RAILCAR MANAGEMENT COMPANY CHARGED

The former CEO of an Illinois railcar management business has been charged with embezzling more than $22 million from the company.

Prosecutors said Michael Calomino, 69, of Frederick, MD fraudulently converted company funds held on behalf of clients and transferred the money to personal accounts for his own use from 2016 to 2025.

EARLY VOTING BEGINS IN CHICAGO

Early voting started in downtown Chicago on Thursday for the general election in November.

Early voting in all 50 wards across the city is scheduled to begin on Oct 19. The Chicago Board of Elections said same-day registration is available at all of the city’s voting sites.

Early voting began in most Illinois jurisdictions on September 24, 40 days before Election Day on Nov. 3.

MAKERS TOUR TO START ON FRIDAY

The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association and the Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center say they will celebrate Manufacturing Month throughout October with the “Makers on the Move” bus tour.

The first stop is scheduled on Friday at TCCI Manufacturing in Decatur. From there, the bus will make more than 30 stops around Illinois.

The IMA says manufacturing is the largest contributor of any industry to the state’s gross domestic product, generating more than $580 billion each year.
