Doggett’s 26 Kills Lift Westville Past Marshall in 2-1 Non-Conference Win

WESTVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 5, 2026) — Senior Madelyn Doggett hammered 26 kills on 41 swings and the Westville Tigers survived a three-set test from visiting Marshall, taking the non-conference match 2-1 on their home floor Sunday.

Doggett was the match’s defining presence. She terminated 63.4 percent of the balls she attacked and hit .488 for the night, an efficiency number that is difficult to defend even when the opponent knows where the set is going. Marshall knew. The Lions stacked 12 assisted blocks across four players and still could not slow the Westville senior, who also led the Tigers with 14 serve receptions and added four digs, three aces and a solo block.

Setter Gwen Bennett fed the attack with 23 assists in three sets, and freshman Danica Fox contributed nine more while running a clean 27 ball-handling attempts without an error. Fox was also Westville’s most dangerous server, going 17-for-17 with five aces and a match-high 13 service points. Carlee Miller added four aces among 15 serves, scored 10 points and finished with six kills on 12 swings for a .417 clip. As a team, Westville served 12 aces to Marshall’s four, and that margin at the service line proved to be the difference in a match otherwise played on even terms.

Marshall had answers. Sophomore Lillian Ross turned in the most complete stat line on either side, posting 11 kills on 27 attempts (.333), five assisted blocks, 11 digs and 11 assists while splitting setting duties. Senior Harper Richardson shouldered the heaviest attacking load for the Lions with 34 swings, converting 10 kills, and she also led the team with 13 assists, added three aces on 14 serves and dug seven balls.

Senior Ellie Delp was Marshall’s most efficient hitter, putting down five kills on nine attempts for a .444 percentage, and freshman Libby Huisinga chipped in a kill and three assisted blocks off the net. Junior libero Ali Sheets anchored the back row with 14 digs and 14 receptions, while sophomore Lexi Mason added 10 receptions and five digs.

Westville’s own back-row work kept the Tigers steady when Marshall’s front line got hot. Daylin Zaayer dug 12 balls and handled eight receptions, and Bennett added 10 digs to go with her setting workload.

The loss drops Marshall to 18-8 on the season. Westville improves to 22-4.
